There are 4 resolutions that members need to vote on:

For your information, the new constitution is based on the Third Age Trust’s model document. There are two significant changes to the current constitution.  These changes have been made by the Third Age Trust.

The first change is the removal of the second paragraph under the ‘Objects’ heading which states that, “The provision of facilities for leisure time and recreational activities with the object to improving the conditions of life for the above persons in the interests of their social welfare”.

The second change is the addition of a section under Section 17, ‘Appointment of Trustees’, paragraph 5 regarding a ‘casual vacancy’.  “In the event of a casual vacancy among elected or co-opted charity trustees, the charity trustee may appoint a person who is willing to act to be a charity trustee.  A charity trustee so appointed shall hold office only until the next annual general meeting”.

This change has been caused by the difficulty many u3as have in attracting members to the committee (referred to as ‘trustees’).  Committee members can undertake one particular role on the committee for a maximum of three years; after 3 years' service, they have to resign from that role.  This change allows for the appointment of a committee member, who has already completed their 3-year limit in one particular role, to carry on in that particular role until the following AGM to allow the committee more time to recruit a replacement.

We have one more space on the committee and would be delighted if one of you would consider joining us. Nomination Form
