The Science group meets at 2pm usually via a Zoom link that is emailed to group members so they can access the meeting with one ‘click’ on their computer.
There will also be some meetings in person at The Mint Methodist Church, (Fore St , Exeter) to provide a more social element and better discussion.
Speakers are chosen by the Group Convenor based on the group members interests and suggestions.
Some speakers are members of the U3A and some are practising professionals at the forefront of modern research.
There will be a wide range of topics ranging across Science and Technology, but members do NOT need to have a Science degree. The content of the talks is of general interest with little technical knowledge required. Although speakers are always willing to go into more detail during the group discussion.
Previous talks have been on: Artificial Intelligence, The Human Brain, Body Clocks, Consciousness, Genetically Engineered Food, Nuclear fusion, Quantum biology, Quasars, Weather forecasting.
These topics raise many interesting questions, some of them ethical, some of them with personal anecdotes and some of them are still without answers. Such is the Joy of Science.
I hope that you will enjoy at least a trial session or two with us. Give it a go! Science will amaze and challenge you.
